Sky on Fire

May 12, 2011 § 7 Comments

I have been really excited about this post for sometime now! I can’t wait for you all to see these. Photos are crazy. When I look at these photos I can’t believe that I was able to capture something that could make me feel calm in the midst of my crazy busy and stressful life. It’s so awesome. Photography has given me the opportunity to pause for a minute…and that is exactly what I need sometimes!

I LOVE the colors I capture during this sunset. I feel like I am starting to be able to create a photo that actually turns out the way I saw it in my mind’s eye. That is so hard to do! Obviously I’m still learning, but now it’s starting to get way more fun!!!

I hope that this summer I’ll be able to devote much more time to my photoblog and start to make big improvements in my photography. I’m so glad I started this hobby! If there is something you’ve always wanted to do, DO IT! Even though I don’t spend that much time doing this, I am still learning and improving…and I’m in a Master’s program! There’s no excuse to procrastinate what you’ve always wanted to do. I’m so glad I’ve learned that because now I won’t be afraid to take on the next thing that comes along.

Walk Around the Block

May 2, 2011 § 2 Comments

Finally a new post! I have been swamped with work and school that I haven’t been able to get around to my new hobby of photoblogging. These pictures were taken a while ago, and I’m still working on getting comfortable with my camera. These were taken during my photography class…we all took a walk around the block. We ran into a few people and most of them would avoid eye contact with any of us and walk past as quickly as possible. I guess a group of 10 weirdos with cameras can be a little unnerving. (“please, please, please don’t try and take my picture”).

I chose my favorite pictures from that evening to post. I caught some really good lighting on some of the old buildings. I think the biggest challenge I’ve been running into lately is trying to compose something that’s really interesting to look at. I have come to really appreciate how amazing the human eye is. I can look at the world and see something fantastic, but it’s a whole different story trying to capture that through the lens of a camera.

I decided to use a slideshow this time around…it was just a million times easier to create. How do you like it? Which pictures are your favorite?

The Pedal Harp

My entire photography obsession started when I found an ad for a photography class at the local community college. I was probably crazy to sign up seeing as how I am in the middle of my Master’s program, but I couldn’t resist! These photos are from our first photo shoot that we did as part of our photography class. I had so much fun doing this shoot and looking at the pictures it’s hard to imagine that I was crammed in a tiny room with 10 other photographers all trying to get the best shots possible. But, I do have to say that I am very pleased with how my photos turned out!

Which do you like the best? These are only a select few of 150 photos!

I love the pattern of the strings and tuning pins. The harp is such a beautiful instrument! I had so much fun with this photo shoot and I hope you enjoy checking out my pictures!

Expect my first few posts to be a little random, photo wise. I’m still experimenting with and getting to know my camera. Here are just a few pics to start us off….

so you know the face behind the camera

So I am not typically prone to following trends, and in my opinion blogs are very trendy. So this isn’t going to be just any blog. This blog has been created for the sole purpose of displaying and talking about my photography.

Now, don’t get too excited, because I am a raw amateur. BUT I am VERY excited to have you come along with me on my journey of discovering my own taste and style in photography.

My husband just bought me a beautiful new camera for my birthday present and it has inspired me to stop keeping all of my photos tucked away nicely in a file folder on my desktop. It’s time to share my hidden hobby with the world! As of right now, I really don’t have much to show, but please stick around and get to know how I write with light.
